Mary's working on hand quilting this gorgeous Ulu (which means Breadfruit) Quilt

Chiska finished the little wall hanging quilt.  Each 12 patch is represents a theme.

And she hand quilted this one for her husband.  The pattern is Happy Quilting's Starburst.  If you want the pattern all together she's got them for sale here.  (Scroll down to find Starburst).  She also did a quilt along that has everything in separate posts (Free!) on this page.  (Again scroll down until you find Starburst and then she has links to the quilt along posts underneath it.   She has quite a few quilt alongs on this page so it's fun to look through, especially if you're looking for a pattern.)

Kathy shared some beautiful things that she got from her Aunt Olga

Sue has been tatting this amazing alter cloth

Here she's showing us how it comes together.

She also shared a tip that when tatting you should use tatting thread, not crochet cotton.  A brand name is Cordonnet (I checked the spelling for those of you wondering).  This thread is a 6 strand thread that is plyed two ways to make it so it doesn't bunch up.

Joyce finished her second baby blanket (since December)

Here's the front--can you see the panda's?  The animals in it are so cute!

It's a darling whole cloth quilt.  Here is the back.

Next month Joyce will do a Press N Seal marking demonstraton.

Show and Tell

Kathy Made these fun mini quilt/potholders.

These are the clear ornaments that she filled with  glitter and some

thread trimmings from her Biscuit Rag Quilt.

They're so pretty!  Here's a closer look:

Mary is working on a quilt for her daughter for her wedding in December.

The pattern is "Postcards from Hawaii"

Here it is a bit close--she has all kinds of fabric

Each piece a memory or a reminder of something.

She's going to make another one for her soon-to-be new son-in-law 

and then they'll button together.

We had so much fun making the scissor FOB's that I didn't get a single picture taken (Sorry!)  They turned out really fun.  Thanks Kathy!

For November please bring:

Shaving Cream (The cheap foam kind.  I've been able to print 2 books per can.  If you're a little thinner on the shaving cream it might go farther.)

I will have red, blue, green and yellow food coloring if you have some ink you'd like to try or any kind of liquid color that would work too.

A cookie sheet if possible (I will bring a few too.) you may want to cover it with plastic or foil.  I've been told that shaving cream can compromise the finish, but I've never had a problem.

If anyone has a squeegee that would be helpful, but not absolutely necessary

What a fun night we had!

First Jeri's friend came by for dinner and a visit

Decided to come around to see the quilts

Then Leslie shared her new therapy bag she made for her new job

And this gorgeous quilt for her Aunt--we got to see it in real life!

The quilting is pretty too!

Sue had a booth at the Library's Fiber Arts Revival

She made this fun tote--even if she didn't like it. 

And these wonderful baskets out of quilted squares.  

She may show us how for a program sometime.

I forgot to take a picture of the orphan Churn Dash Blocks she turned into pot holders.

They're sitting on her lap in the picture above.

Jeri made this special blanket out of fabric she purchased in Denver with her husband.

It's suede-like on one side and wool-like on the other.  Then she made this fun pillow cases to match:

For our program Marsha shared some gift ideas and 

we got to fondle a lot of different Minky and fleece fabric

Here are some of the tips she gave us for working with Minky:

Use a walking foot!

For applique use Perfect Applique Magic Spray (by Home Stitches)

Use a ball point stretch needle

Use 3- 3.5 Stitch Length

Use wider seam allowances (more the 1/4")

You can use wax or parchment paper on the top or the bottom to move the fabric through your machine

You can't iron it.

Needs to be dried on a low setting.

You can do simple patchwork-Marsha recommends nothing smaller than inches--you can use woven fabric on the edged or make sure the stretch is opposite the way it rolls on the machine

Booties out of fleece

You can tear some types of Minky and then it will curl in on itself to create a fun scarf.  

If you run your hand over it a few times it stops shedding too.

Terial Magic a temporary stabilizer spray for fabric so you don't have to hoop it.

She showed us a fun kit using chalkboard fabric to make a quiet book type thing.
